There are few life journeys, that are recommended to do alone. Rarely do people say, “I’m so glad you’re experiencing this on your own”. Weight loss is statistically more successful when it is done with a support system. So, I ask you, who are your people?

Gather ‘Round

There are so many experiences in life that have support groups, social networks and community resources. Weight loss and fitness are not excluded from that. Research shows that having a strong circle of support benefits weight loss, and provides the mental game needed to sustain it. And here’s a fun fact, that group of people does not have to be people you are close with to work!

Knowing and communicating with people having the same experience as you, gives you the realization that you are not alone. You are not uncommon in your feelings, fears and struggles. There is a whole population of people who are trying to be healthy and lose weight. Connecting with these groups, validates how you feel, answers questions and gives you insight on what to expect, what to question and what is normal to feel.

Connecting with a social media group, in person or virtual therapy, or finding friends to be by your side, also helps make you accountable. The more you discuss your intentions, the more open you become to those around you. The more comfortable they will feel complimenting you, encouraging you and motivating you.

There are many people who have tried multiple methods of weight loss. People with a long history of yo-yo dieting, often do not want to rely on friends and family for support. Those family members have watched you go through this before. Connecting with people who understand the struggles, will be able to provide support and drive from a personal place. They will be able to give advice from a true understanding of the process.

For those of you who have had procedures with us, we would like to invite you to our Facebook support group and our “Bariendo Wellness Circle”. I would encourage you to message your Registered Dietician and/or Cam, your Wellness Expert, for details. It is an amazing way to connect with people from all over the country, who have had procedures done, and in all stages of the process. I would also love to hear back from you with tips, advice for patients and recipes you have found helpful.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Be good to yourselves, Warmly, Sheri
